The Forest Lake Police Department is teaming with community members for the seventh year in a row for the annual Night to Unite event promoting neighborhood safety. The event will take place in many neighborhoods throughout Forest Lake on Aug. 4.
“This is a chance for neighbors to get to know one another,” Detective Ashley LaValle said. “Getting to know the people who live in your neighborhood means you become more comfortable about communicating if it seems something is wrong. It also helps people to learn who should and shouldn’t be hanging around the area.”
Residents are encouraged to plan a get together with their neighbors for the Night to Unite event. A typical gathering could include a meal and family friendly activities or games. Residents who call the FLPD to register their event will not only receive up to two dozen cupcakes for their party, they will also get a visit from local officers.
“Night to Unite is also a chance for residents to ask question of our officers,” LaValle said. “Many people don’t have a chance to talk to police on a regular basis, so this is a low-key way for us to meet with people in a friendly manner.”
LaValle said that the number of parties has risen every year and that last year officers visited 25 parties in the city. To register your gathering, call LaValle at 651-209-9919 or 432@flpd.com.
