With thousands of people out and about in Forest Lake during the July 4 celebration, it can be a busy time for law enforcement. This year, police had preliminary reports of 307 calls for service over the holiday weekend, including 12 related to assault, four DUIs, 12 for alcohol in public and 13 fireworks complaints.

There were 10 arrests. During the celebration but before the weekend proper, one notable incident was the arrests of Jonathan Todd Rouland, 28, of Forest Lake, and Jennifer Julie Olson, 25, of Forest Lake, near the American Legion on July 2. According to a police report, Rouland fled from police near the building following a disturbance call around 9:40 p.m., and Olson was arrested near the beer garden. Witnesses told police that a drunken Olson was throwing chairs in the beer garden and later began pushing and striking a man who was holding a two month-old infant. Rouland’s involvement in the incident was not clear in the report. The Forest Lake Times will have more on this story in a future issue.
